Project Description:

This project was initiated in response to the tsunami of December 2004.

Major interventions by the international community during the immediate aftermath helped restore the infastructure and aid the recovery of thousands of people.  

Continuing this kind of support, Cinnamon Land facilitates entry into the job market for more than 100 young people in the districts of Galle and Matara.

In accordance with the local authorities and following high national standards, Progetto Sud, together with "Home for People for Home" manages and organizes training courses for the duration of 6 to 12 months. The program makes use of public authorities, recieving certificates of national recognition.

Finally, to ensure that the initative is sustainbale, the project forsees the construction of a multi-purpose training in the village of Deniyaya. The center will be donated to the Diocese of Galle.

General Objectives:

To improve the economic and social conditions of disadvantaged families and children in the districts of Matara and Galle.

Specific Objectives:

1)   Implementation of a program of formative development, job support, and entreprenurial training for disadvantaged youth.

2)   Construction of a multi-purpose training center.

 Realized outcomes:

1. Training and entry in the job market.

2. Support to entrepreneurs (providing the resources for production of handcrafts, administrative assistance).

3. Construction of a training center in Deniyaya. 

Expected outcomes:

1. The creation of training courses certified at the national level.

2. The introduction of more than 100 young people from the Matara and Galle districts in the job market.

3.Handing the training center over to local partners.
